About this game

Vocabulario Español is a free 3D exploration game for people learning Spanish. You walk around a round, open world, find floating vocabulary cards, and collect them. Each card shows a picture, the Spanish word, and its English meaning.

How it started

This game began with my students. I am a teacher, and the many students I have taught are the reason it exists. Watching them work through vocabulary, I kept coming back to the same thought: memorizing a list of words is one of the least exciting ways to learn a language, and yet the words are what everything else is built on.

I wanted something that felt more like exploring than studying. A place where a word isn’t just a line on a worksheet, but something you walk up to, pick up, and keep. So I started building a world where learning Spanish vocabulary means wandering around, finding things, and collecting them.

I built it on my own, one piece at a time, and my students’ curiosity and questions, across all the groups I teach, kept shaping what went into it. The idea that you can see a picture and the word together, and come back to the ones you’ve collected, came straight from wanting to give them a better way to practice.

What you learn

The game includes 1,000 Spanish words. Nouns appear with their article (el or la), so you learn the gender along with the word, and verbs appear in the infinitive, such as caminar (to walk). Categories include directions, countries, verbs, and everyday objects. New learners can start with the simple words nearby, and more advanced learners can explore farther for less common vocabulary. You can see every word on the vocabulary list.

Your collection

Every card you collect goes into your inventory. Open the menu to review your cards, and tap any card to see it enlarged with the Spanish word and its English meaning.

Saving and sound

Your progress and settings, including sound volume, are saved in your own browser, so you can press Continue and pick up where you stopped. The game has relaxed background music that you can turn down or off in the menu.

About the creator

Vocabulario Español is made by Brant Fuller, an independent developer and teacher. Learning a language takes time, and this is meant to make some of that time more enjoyable.

Who it is for

The game is for anyone learning Spanish: students in school, adults picking the language up for travel or work, and parents or teachers looking for something that makes vocabulary practice feel less like homework. It does not assume any prior knowledge. A complete beginner can collect the simple nearby words first, while someone with more experience can use the game to fill gaps and meet less common words. Because everything is free and runs in the browser, there is nothing to install and no account to create.

How to get the most from it

The game works best as one part of a routine rather than the whole routine. Play for a short while, write down the words you collected, say them out loud, and then read one of the guides to see how those words fit into real sentences. The guides explain the grammar behind the vocabulary, such as noun gender, verb endings, and the difference between ser and estar, so the words you collect turn into things you can actually say.
